As we enter 2014, we seem to hear, “My goal is ……., then I will be happy”. What does this mean? Why is happiness so difficult for many people to achieve? Is it the goal or the journey towards the goal? Do you have to look a certain way to be happy?
In your journey, many of these questions can only be answered by you. The way I see it is happiness is a choice. Happiness is a state of BE-ing. Honestly, do you really think you can only be happy when you accomplish your goal? Why not enjoy the process? It doesn’t mean you can not work towards your goal (whether it is a certain weight, financial goal, promotion, etc.) and work with every fiber of your being to create your desires. We will never get it done and there will always be more to do…it is a never ending cycle.
Our days here are fleeting…I choose to make them count and to be happy. Of course, I can not say I am happy 100% of the time…I am learning how to deal with contrast effectively. This is part of the journey.
Happiness, to me, is the choice we can all make. Try this: Close your eyes. Think back to a time when you can truly say your were happy (the time your child was born, you received a raise, you had an amazing sexual experience, etc.) Feel the experience. Allow yourself to be caught in the moment of the memory and the feeling. Breathe it in. Be grateful for the experience. Open your eyes and appreciate the experience. What a great feeling!
In 2014…Jay and I wish each one of you a year filled with HAPPY-ness. May your days be filled with experiences which allow you to laugh, smile and be happy.
