In this article, we wanted to cover more in depth rule #5 from our 12 Steps to a Fabulously Fit Body.
Although it’s been the topic of spirited debate for decades by exercise scientists, it appears Fasted AM Cardio is best for people who are already lean and on their way to being competition lean.
For the lean trying to get very lean (15% body fat or less for men, 22% or less for women), various strategies, including fasted cardio are probably going to be required to offset the mobilization and blood flow defects.”
Obviously based on Lyle’s research your results will vary based on your present conditioning.
But if you want to lose body fat in the fastest way possible, short high intensity, low impact burst cardio or intervals will burn the most calories per unit of time. Depending on the intensity expended, it will also raise basal metabolic rate (BMR) the highest for hours afterward effectively allowing you to burn more calories while at rest.
To make this a regular habit in your life, buy a stationary bike , treadmill or stair master and put it next to your bed. This will be the perfect incentive to get your cardio done first thing in the morning before eating and getting ready for your day.
If your goal is to dramatically lower your body fat (regardless of your present condition) it’s likely Fasted AM Cardio will play a role in your quest to get there.
As always, we encourage you to comment or ask questions respective to your current condition.
