For most women, turning 40 is a significant milestone; this new life season ahead of you will be full of exciting changes and transitions, and the best way to get on top of them is to prepare yourself mentally, emotionally and physically for the changes ahead of you.
We’ve put together a list of tips you’ll find beneficial in managing this new life ahead of you:
#1 Acknowledge the Power of Self Talk
Whether positive or negative, things we tell ourselves can make or break our happy present and future. What is more, those same things can not only affect our overall self-esteem and condition the way we’ll act around other people but, more importantly – change the way we feel 24/7.
When you are young, everything anyone says is taken to heart; however, when you are older (and wiser), you know better. A mature mind is aware of things as they are, not the way they are perceived by others.
On that note, as we age, we get much kinder with ourselves and take full responsibility for our emotions and our behavior. You’ll love this new life stage where you can redirect your thoughts from negative to positive in a second, only because you know your real value.
When you start appreciating yourself, you instantly feel better, and others feel it, too!
#2 Accept That Aging Is Inevitable
No one is suggesting you shouldn’t put up a good fight against signs of aging but acknowledging again is inevitable altogether will set you free. Do you use serums and creams that will keep your skin looking healthy and glowing?
More importantly, do they embrace the beauty of your age lines, as every one of those lines is a mark of your life’s journey!
Each line is a story, and what better way is there to honor your life than accept everything about yourself.
#3 Schedule a Well Woman Exam
Prevention can, sometimes, be everything! Scheduling your annual well-woman exam is one of the most important things to write in your planner. In being aware of your health condition, you are potentially preventing chronic diseases and aiding your life longevity. Your healthcare routine should contain these exams:
- Pap Test and Pelvic Exam: Every 1-3 years
- Eye Exam: Every 2-4 years
- Mole Check: Every year
- Blood Pressure: Every two years
- Mammogram: Every 1 to 2 years
- Blood Glucose: Every three years (after the age of 45)
#4 Understand That Quality Sleep Is Crucial
Great things used to happen after midnight when we were 18+.
These days – all good things happen up to that time. So, why not treat your body and mind to a good night’s rest? Sleep is wonderfully relaxing, healthy and rejuvenating.
#5 Do Know That Great Sex Doesn’t Stop in Your 20s
Just because you have children (or even grandchildren), your period is varying, and your lines have gotten more visible, it doesn’t mean your sex drive should diminish. Contrary to popular belief, sex doesn’t stop after the age of 40; if anything, it gets even more fun!
Maturity brings the best in people, including their freedom to spice things up in the bedroom. So, if you are feeling like getting hot in the sheets, get hot! Don’t let any prejudice stop you from pleasurable activities, okay?
